"Tree Management Award" (TMA) is a large-scale campaign hosted by ISA Hong Kong Chapter. In this year, the campaign aims to recognize non-domestic properties (e.g. hotels, shopping malls, commercial buildings, schools under the Direct Subsidy Scheme (private premises) and private schools) that excel in tree management, raise the awareness of tree preservation in the property management industry and encourage the industry to recognize the benefits of trees. It is our honor that the campaign has been supported by HKSAR Development Bureau, Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch, The Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, and The Hong Kong Institute of Housing* three years in a row, also glad to have the support of IFMA Hong Kong Chapter in this year.

Awards winners of the TMA

  • will be presented with a trophy and / or, a certificate;

  • the list of winners will be posted on our website and Facebook to showcase their tree management achievements in the given period; and

  • may be invited to share at public events/ gain media coverage, to showcase their achievements and experiences in tree management.

To recognize the efforts of participants, a “Participation Certificate” will be issued to each eligible participant that has completed the assessment and yet do not receive any awards or certificates.

Event Details

  • Any non-domestic property achieves the required standard will be awarded. According to professional assessment, the award is categorized into three levels (Platinum, Gold, Merit). There is no limit on the number of properties awarded for each category.

  • The assessment period for TMA 2023 is from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022.

  • Non-domestic property may only be nominated by the management company with prior consent from the owners representative group of the property concerned (if applicable)

Enrolment Method

1. Nominating organization please submit the nomination form via the link below by 5pm on 30 September, 2023.


2. All necessary supporting documents to be submitted by the following methods on or before 5pm on 30 September, 2023. There is no restriction in document format, extra information such as layout plan, photos or video are also acceptable. All the documents should be related to the requirement of Tree Management Award.

3. The application Fee for TMA 2023 is HKD1,000.

  • Application fee could be paid by crossed cheque payable to “ISA Hong Kong Chapter Ltd.” (with property name on the back) and posted to “Room 11, 9/F, Lee King Industrial Buildings, 12 Ng Fong Street, San Po Kong, Kowloon”; or

  • By depositing to Hang Seng Bank account no. 789-314119-001 and e-mail the pay-in slip to info@isahongkong.org.

  • Please mark “Application for Tree Management Award 2023” and the property name on the envelop / email subject.

Mr. Gavin S. Coates

Mr. Gavin Coates is a Senior Lecturer at HKU’s Division of Landscape Architecture, a Registered Landscape Architect in Hong Kong, Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, Chartered Member of The Landscape Institute (UK) and a Member of the Chartered Society of Designers (UK). Since the early 1980s he has participated in several key Projects for the Hong Kong Government including Tseung Kwan O New Town infrastructure, various public housing estates, Yuen Long Town Park and the design of the waterfall area of Hong Kong Park. From 2004 to 2015, Gavin was primarily involved with the design and site supervision of the Greening Master Plan programme instigated by the Civil Engineering and Development Department under which more than 20,000 trees were planted in the urban areas of the HKSAR.

 

Mr. James Ian Robinson

Mr. Ian Robinson is a Chartered Horticulturist, Member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (UK) and an ISA Certified Arborist with ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification, HKILA Accredited Arborist who holds a Higher National Diploma in Landscape and Horticultural Technology from the UK. Ian has been in Landscape Management and Arboricultural senior executive positions for over 46 years in UK and Hong Kong. Ian is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Division of Landscape Architecture of the University of Hong Kong where he has been developing and delivering modules on Horticulture, Landscaping and Arboriculture since the commencement of the Master of Landscape Architecture degree course in 1994.

 

Ms. Lee Wing Ying Ada

Ms. Ada Lee is currently Lecturer of Vocational Training Council teaching programmes in related to tree management. She had been Landscape Manager over a decade in the Industry. She is ISA Certified Arborist with Tree Risk Assessment Qualification, CIC Environmental Supervisor and CIC Safety Supervisor. She has obtained B.Sc. (Hons) in Environmental Life Science (HKU), M.Sc. in Environmental Management (HKU) and MSc in Urban Forestry and Arboriculture (UCLAN). She is also the Member of Industry Training Advisory Committee - Arboriculture and Horticulture under The Qualification Framework, Immediate Past President as well as Board of Directors of ISA Hong Kong Chapter.

 

Dr. Tang Ming Chak Alvin

Dr. Alvin Tang is an expert in the fields of tree and fungus. Over the last twenty years, he has conducted research aimed at understanding plant diseases, tree management, fungal taxonomy, and mushroom poisoning. Currently, he serves as the Course Coordinator for the Tree Management Programme at Hong Kong Baptist University. Dr. Tang has been actively involved in various public education programmes, including public seminars, workshops, and local and overseas field trips. He has published various scientific papers and has participated in 130 media interviews to provide insights on various scientific topics.

 

Mr. Wong Cheuk-yuet, Chiky

Mr. Chiky Wong is an experienced arborist, landscape specialist and restoration ecologist who works with NGOs, consultancies, contractors and the government. He also teaches as a part-time lecturer at School of Continued Education of Hong Kong Baptist, Technological and Higher Education Institute and Institute of Vocational Education. Currently he is a Member of Urban Forestry Advisory Committee of Development Bureau, Faculty Member of Hong Kong Green Building Council, Vice-chairperson of Horticulture and Arboriculture Industrial Training Advisory Committee of Education Bureau, Expert of The Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications.

 

Mr. Wong Kwok Leung, Edmond

Mr. Edmond Wong has been appointed as a Park Manager since 2006, working in a non-government park where thousands of trees have been retained, planted and transplanted under his management. In recent years, he was appointed as Landscape & Arboriculture Manager, responsible for overseeing trees and plants in about 86 private housing estates. He is a competent and experienced arborist and tress risk assessor with relevant ISA and LANTRA qualifications, also a registered professional housing manager. So he is well-aware of the need to arrange proper tree works and soft landscape management in different residential and commercial projects.
